The hair drug test is fast gaining popularity, partly because we don't have to carry those white little bottles around as we do in case of 'Liquid IO test'! A bunch of hair are pulled out and sent to laboratory where the drug metabolites are screened from the cortex of the hair. The metabolites are extracted out from the sample, purified and finally, concentrated. The concentrated metabolites are then analyzed qualitatively & quantitatively by using various chromatography techniques and thus, a complete drug profiles can be created from just few mighty hairs! Often liquid or gas chromatography along with mass spectrometric techniques are employed for extensive profiling purposes. The major advantage of hair drug testing is that the metabolites reside inside the hair shaft, and thus the sample cannot be adulterated at all.
