Alcohol intoxication leads to tens of thousands of fatalities annually, directly or indirectly. For last few decades, two conventional methods have been quite routinely for alcohol testing - simple urine tests and breathalyzers. Further, Ethyl Glucuronide and Ethyl Sulphate based alcohol tests have been developed and have been quite popular as these methods are able to sketch down the whole alcoholic consumption history of the last 80 hours where as, simple and conventional urine test and breathalyzers can give a plot only for the last few hours. The ETG/ETS alcohol detection tests are based on the principle of alcohol biomarkers, which are only produced due to alcohol metabolism. So, these tests are completely reliable as they can not be masked by any sort of illnesses, for example, urinary tract infections or diabetes. Cut-off levels are used on the basis of medication history and eating habits to filter the false positive results that may be generated due to consumption of certain prescription drugs or foods that contain non-beverage alcohol.
