Step 1: Cutting of Hair

a. Wipe the scissors with an alcohol wipe.

b. Select a long thin strip of hair (equal to the diameter of a pencil or a soda straw when placed in the Collection Foil) and cut the hair sample as close to the scalp as possible. This hair sample can be taken from any part of the head.


You should collect 90 to 120 strands of hair. More strands are needed if the hair is less than 1.5 inches long or if hair is extremely thin. Collect from several locations if hair is very short.

Step 2: Preparing the Hair Sample
 
a. Place the root ends of the sample at the EDGE of the Collection Foil where it is marked a. PLACE ROOT END HERE. (Fig. A)

b. Crimp the tab end over the root ends of the sample. (Fig. B)

c. Straighten hair to full length along center crease of the foil keeping the root ends together c. at the edge of the foil. (Fig. C)
 



 

 

 
d. Fold the Collection Foil in
half along the center line.
(Fig. D)

e. Fold the Collection Foil lengthwise again. (Fig. E)
 



The Sample is now ready to be placed into the Hair Specimen Pouch.

Step 3: Mailing Your Sample

a. Place the Collection Foil in the Hair Specimen Envelope. Seal the envelope with the Security Label provided on the Specimen ID card. (Fig. A)

b. Place the Specimen ID card in a safe place, as you will need this ID Number and Passcode to register your test and obtain your results.

c. The parent/guardian must initial and date the Security Label, and confirm the hair sample type.




d. Place the sealed Hair Specimen Envelope in the Clear Pouch. (Fig. B)

  

e. Seal the Clear Pouch and place in the pre-paid Shipping Mailer.
The Specimen is now ready for shipment.

Step 4: Obtaining the Results

Once you have mailed the hair sample, you must register your test at www.hairconfirm.com to obtain your results. You will need your Specimen ID Number, Passcode and email address to register.

The results will be available approximately 2 business days after the hair sample is received by

    "This product will really help parents in the fight against drug use in their homes. I didn’t even need to use this kit to find out that my daughter was doing drugs. As soon as it showed up in the mail and she realized what was coming, she fessed up to using not only weed but ecstasy, too. We did the test anyway becuase we were curious to see if it would work accurately and it did. I’m very pleased. "
    "I tested my teenage daughter because she admitted to having tried marijuana on a couple of occasions and I wanted to know how much she had been using and if she had been using other substances, too. The test was easy to use, and the results came quickly, but they came out negative for all types of drugs. Not only did the marijuana usage not show up, but there was no positive result for Vicoden, which seemed odd because she had her wisdom teeth removed several weeks prior and had taken 1-2 Vicoden per day for 5 days. The company told me that lower levels of exposure will not show up in the results. So this test gave me some reassurance that my daughter is not a heavy drug user, but the information packet gave me the impression that any drug exposure would show up. It should be made clear that that’s not the case. Parents should be aware that a negative test doesn't necessarily mean that your child is completely drug-free."
    "The test comes with easy to follow instructions and everything makes sense when following the directions. The product is easy to use, and seems of good quality, definitely appeared to be a professional kit. The issue with this test for me came after the results arrived, which were negative on everything tested for. This didn’t make sense to me, as I had recently been on a prescription to Adderall, taking it every day for eight months. I had also recently smoked marijuana once. Although a single time smoking marijuana could be dismissed easily enough, the Adderall -- an amphetamine -- should be showing up. Customer service was of no use to me, they basically just ignored me. The positive results will apparently show you the levels of drugs in your system (but only if they are over the minimum cutoff level) but the negative results show nothing. I can only guess that the Adderall prescription didn’t put me above the minimum cutoff that they test for. Maybe the test is designed this way to accommodate for medicinal drug intake? I don’t know because customer service was less than accommodating with me. (I tried phone and email.) After I did my own research, I found that infrequent marijuana use is almost impossible to pick up because THC and its metabolites don’t bind with hair follicles well and long term consistent use is needed for that to happen. And even though amphetamines and their metabolites are picked up easily by hair, it still takes abuse on an addict’s level to have it show up in the hair. None of this is made clear on any of the packaging (and it should be). While the test seems to work fine, I cannot recommend it at this selling price. Hair testing is not as fool proof as it is made out to be by the people selling it. Do your own research before buying this product. You may find that a $5 pee cup is the best way to go unless you’re absolutely sure that someone is abusing drugs (because if it’s a once in a while thing, this test won’t catch them)."

    "The Hair Confirm test is very reliable. We have used it on teens at our center for a few years. Most people do not follow the instructions well enough. The instructions state that 1/2 inch cut closest to the scalp will go back 30 days, up to 1 inch cut closest to the scalp will go back 60 days. We have spoken with the lab directly about negative cutoff limits and what will and won’t show up in a test. We found them to be quite helpful. "
    "I’ve read so many different reviews about this product (both good and bad) that I was unsure how this would work. Personally, though, I received fantastic service! I can say honestly that this test does work but you should do some homework before buying to make sure that you know what to expect. This isn’t like a urine test at all. If the person you are testing has done drugs recently it probably won't show up because you have to wait for the hair to grow out."
    "The one knock I have against this test is that the lab results don’t have enough identifying information. The results are only identified by a test number and have no personal information about the person who was tested. I understand the need for doing this but I had to use my test results in a court case and that caused some problems for me. "

That’s a lot of ouch! More honesty about the product’s drawbacks would be appreciated by the consumer. Also, change the product name to "Multiple Hair Follicle Drug Test.”"

    "This test was a waste of money for me. I didn’t realize that there are cutoff levels with drug tests. I thought if there was any trace of a drug (meaning anything above zero) that the test would come back positive and if there were no traces of drugs at all it would come back negative. I explained this to HairConfirm customer service and they told me that I would have to spend an additional $70 to have the test redone at a lower cutoff level (but still not zero). What good is a drug test where the cutoff level is anything above zero? This product is useless, in my opinion and the fact that you have to spend additional money to have them retest at a lower cutoff level is insulting and a blatant money grab."
