Your order will include a printed 17 X 10.6 inch ancestry map. Each map is broken into three major sections: population matches, native region matches, and strength indicators. Please read below on how to read your map.

Population matches: The lab measures your DNA against every population in their database. They mark how strongly your profile matches against each of these populations. On the map you will see a color that indicates how strong of a match you have with that particular population. Green indicates the best match, yellow indicates a good match, and red indicates no match or a weak match. This map contains data of recent migrations to North America.

Native region matches: The lab determines which anthropological native regions you have the strongest links with. Green indicates the strongest match, yellow indicates any subsequent matches. This map can be considered more of a "deep roots" match compared to the population match map.

Strength indicators: This contains 2 strength indicators in graph forms. The first graph looks at the cumulative strength of all the populations in your matched regions. It shows you how strong each region is compared with each other. It shows how each represented region measures up with any other regions you may have matched. The second strength indicator looks at the native region matches and shows how each native region compares with any other regions you may have matched.

Ancestral Origins is not a genealogy test - it tells you where your DNA profile would most likely turn up in the world today. It tells you which populations your DNA most match against, which national DNA profile your DNA best resemble to.

A lot of people are mislead by "genealogy" tests that track lineage back to, for example, Spain or Israel. Here is the truth about those tests. Suppose you track your maternal line back to Spain and you Paternal line back to Israel. To be conservative, let us say this has been tracked back about 8 generations. By tracking the lines back, you know the heritage of two people: Your Great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather and grandmother. But you actually have 256 Great, great, great, great, great, great grandparents. Therefore people could be led to believe they are Spanish and Israeli based upon data from only ~0.8% of their ancestors - and this is only 8 generations. At 12 generations, you have 4096 of these ancestral parents, but you still only know the lineage for two of them.
