When you're having hormonal imbalance you're likely to experience symptoms that can affect your quality of life. Among them include unexplained irritability, hot flashes, memory lapses, decreased libido and anxiety. Although these and the rest of the common symptoms listed below may be caused by other factors you can't really know for sure until you see your physician and get yourself tested.

This multi-panel hormone testing service provides an efficient way to determine your hormone levels. It aims to evaluate eight essential hormones, such as Estradiol, Progesterone, Testosterone, DHEA-S and morning Cortisol, as well as noon, evening and night Cortisol. Oftentimes, you'd feel awkward to walk in the clinic or hospital to undergo specific tests. You're probably worried with the stare you'll get from other patients or you're hesitant with having to deal with needles.

Either way, this comprehensive 8-panel hormone imbalance testing service could be just the more convenient method for you. It involves collection of your saliva samples in the privacy of your own home and sending them to an accredited laboratory using the included pre-paid shipping label.

This testing service is useful for you and your physician in making an accurate and definitive diagnosis. It's safe and reliable, with the result being available in just a few days.

Most of these signs and symptoms are multigenic as well as multifactorial and may be associated with genetic, epigenetic, dietary and environmental factors and mediated by variation in certain hormones. A careful interpretation of results by your physician is suggested. Any form of self-therapy without consulting a licensed physician is highly discouraged.

Each service includes:
  • Symptom Checklist on Test Requisition Form
  • Requisition Form to complete including your personal and medical history
  • Pre-paid, Pre-addressed Return Packaging
  • Vial(s) for collecting saliva
  • Instructions for How to Use Saliva Collection Kit

Kindly note that the results of this hormone saliva test may not imply a causative effect due to hormonal changes.

Most of the hormones show a daily endogenous rhythmic variation in their levels and the results of a hormonal test would depend significantly on the time at which the test was taken. So, sampling just once would be inadequate to make any suggestive analysis! Ideally, it is suggested that such profiling should be done periodically at different times in a day for multiple days for obtaining suggestive data that is biologically meaningful.

Saliva Testing

Saliva based hormone level testing is a convenient way of testing steroid hormones. Since mid 1980s thousands of scientific studies have shown a strong correlation between steroid hormone levels in saliva and the amount of hormone in the blood that is active or "bioavailable."

Saliva testing can be done anywhere anytime. Blood based hormone testing that relies on blood drawn in the doctor's office makes it harder to obtain samples at specific times (such as in the early morning) or multiple times during the day. In addition, hormones in saliva are exceptionally stable and can be stored at room temperature for up to a week without affecting the accuracy of the result. This offers maximum flexibility in sample collection and shipment.

Advantages

  • Saliva measures the free, "bioavailable" fraction of steroid hormones that have moved out of the bloodstream and into the tissue --  NOTE: Blood and urine measure "total" levels
  • Saliva as a collection tool is a painless, noninvasive and needle-free (stress caused by a conventional blood draw can alter test results)
  • Hormones are stable in saliva at room temperature up to three weeks allowing for worldwide shipment
  • Transport of saliva samples to laboratory requires no special handling
  • Less expensive than conventional hormone blood testing
  • Ease of collection allows for routine monitoring of hormone levels and adjustment of hormone supplementation as needed.

Clinical Utility

Saliva testing can help providers:

  • Identify hidden hormonal imbalances (deficiency or excess) associated with patient symptoms of menopause and andropause as well as reproductive disorders, chronic illness and diseases of aging
  • Link clinical symptoms to specific hormone imbalance(s)
  • Maintain health and prevent disease through early detection of any hormonal imbalance(s)
  • Establish treatment to restore hormonal balance and patient quality of life
  • Monitor patient hormone levels for "individualized" hormone replacement therapy
  • Track patient progress with comparative history reports provided with follow-up testing

NOTE:

California State residents:

California State health law requires that the testing of any specimen collected or mailed from California be sent with a written order from a health care professional licensed in California to order laboratory tests. This includes the following disciplines: M.D.; D.C.; LAc; R.D.; D.O.; N.P.; and Pharmacists (R.PH). As of September 2002 (Senate Bill 577), such lab tests may be ordered by complementary or alternative health care practitioners "not providing services that require medical training."

New York State Residents
New York State health law prohibits the testing of specimens collected in or mailed from New York, and prohibits the transmission of data from ZRT Laboratory to NY physicians or residents. Therefore, direct receipt of lab results for NY residents is not possible.

No other states are affected.

"I received the test kit within a few days of ordering it and I read all the instructions very carefully. Make sure you read all the instructions carefully. There are steps that may seem unimportant but are extremely important. It also takes much longer than you would expect to fill a small tube with saliva so don’t think you’ll be done this test in five or ten minutes. It took me almost 30 mins to fill the tube and another several minutes to fill out the questionnaire. It took about a week for my saliva sample to reach the lab and, as advertised, within about 7 days or so of the lab receiving my sample, I got my results. So it was about two weeks of total turnaround time. The results came with an explanation and lots of information. I am in my mid 50s so it’s really important to me to know about my hormone levels and I’m glad there is an easy way to do it. "
"I was having a hard time losing weight, and was also a little more anxious than I normally am a few months back. Everything seemed to upset me or get me excited, and my heart was always beating like a bass drum. It was actually kind of scary. After talking to a nurse friend of mine about this, she said she thought that I had high cortisol, and that I should have it checked. I didn’t want the hassle of an appointment with the doctor so I researched cortisol tests online and came across this one. Within a week of taking the test, I had my results and it confirmed that indeed my cortisol was way high. I have since been able to get my cortisol under control and have even lost 15 pounds!"
"Although this test kit is pricey ,I thought it would be worth it to find out my hormone levels. I’m getting up there in age and these things are important to know. Aside from the price, the only complaint I have is that it’s not as easy collecting the spit as you might think. It takes quite a bit of time, even when you follow the directions so you should book an appropriate amount of time for spit collecting. the service itslef is prompt."
"I never really considered how important it is to keep an eye on hormone levels until my doctor told me that hormone imbalances can cause a huge array of problems. So when I started to get symptoms that had no other explanation to them, I decided to get a hormone level testing kit. It was one of the best decisions of my life. With this kit, I found that I had an imbalance of progesterone and was able to get a lot of those symptoms cleared up. Everything about the service was easy, from ordering it to collecting the saliva and shipping it off to the lab. If you are getting older, don’t hesitate to find out if you have a hormone imbalance. It’s easy and could save you a lot of grief. "
"This test gave me some much needed peace of mind. It turns out my testosterone levels are out of whack for a man my age so I can now take the steps to get that corrected. the test itself is easy to do and you don’t even need to do the test, really. You just take the sample and send it away and the lab does all the work. "
"For me this test was a huge pain to do because I do not produce a lot of saliva (something I did not find out until I had to try and fill the tubes with the required amount of saliva). The good thing about this test is that if you can’t collect enough saliva in one sitting, you can freeze the contents and continue the next day. That was a relief for me because I really had trouble getting my saliva to flow. (I found that the smell of food worked best to get my saliva glands pumping. If you are the type of person who can produce saliva with no problem than this kit is likely going to work for you. But if you have trouble creating saliva then you might want to see if there is another way you can test your hormones. Everything else about the service was fine, just such a long time to collect spit."
"If you have any symptoms of high cortisol, this test is a reliable way to find out if you have elevated cortisol levels. It is easy and the results come back lickety-split!"
"As we get older, it’s increasingly important to keep track of hormones in the body. This kit is an excellent way to do just that. It’s fast and painless. I appreciate that I don’t have to cut myself up to take this test. I simply drool into a tube! If you want to know about your hormone levels, this test is a good way to find such things out. "
"Fast, easy service and I like that I can do the sample collecting at home and just ship it away. It’s a lot less hassle than going tothe clinic!"
"Got this for my husband and found out, thankfully, that his testosterone levels are fine. He didn’t like having to drool like a little baby into a tube but I thought it was funny watching him. Other than that, it’s a simple test to do and the results come back fast. "
"This test works and works well. I have done it before and because of what I found out, I started using natural progesterone cream as advised to me by my doctor. All my menopause symptoms disappeared! I'm repeating the test now just to follow up since I'm 59 years old now. Also, get the great book "Are your Hormones Making you Sick?" by Eldred B. Taylor. It’s a wonderful guide to hormone balance and will help you understand the importance of the Saliva Test."
"I thought this test was easy to do. Like others have already said, gathering the saliva is a bit challenging but just keep thinking about your favourite food! lol"
