JWH-018 and JWH-073 are two synthetic compounds that possess biological activities similar to 9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) - the primary component of marijuana. They are collectively known as synthetic cannabinoids which are sprayed in various herbal products marketed as incense, such as K2 and Spice.
Although K2, Spice and dozens of other "herbal incense" products are marked "not for human consumption", they are commonly smoked by people because they produce a high similar to marijuana. JWH-018, JWH-073 and its many cousins were considered unsafe because nearly all were created for experimental use in animals and cell cultures - not in human. Additionally, these synthetic compounds have chemical structure shared with known cancer-causing agents. (Source: http://www.iowa.gov/odcp/docs/Spice/k2webmdmarch2010.pdf)
What the JWH-018 Urine test does
The synthetic marijuana urine laboratory test offered on TestCountry is designed to test for the two synthetic cannabinoids most commonly found in herbal incense products, such as JWH-018 and JWH-073. Once these synthetic compounds are consumed, they are rapidly metabolized in the body and excreted in the urine as a series of related metabolites. The metabolites are identified based on both chromatographic parameters as well as mass spectral fingerprinting.
How the JWH-018 Urine test works
This synthetic marijuana urine test requires 10 ml of urine sample which may be collected randomly or on the spot. The samples can be refrigerated or frozen to ensure non-contamination. A specimen is considered positive if there is a match of at least 6 metabolic compounds when compared with known compounds found in reference samples. A positive result will be reported as "POSITIVE; Metabolite profile consistent with the use of JWH-018 and/or JWH-073 is present".
JWH-018 Urine Testing Window of Detection
JWH-018 and JWH-073 metabolites can be detected in urine up to 72 hours - depending on usage/dosage.
Cut-off Limits
In this synthetic marijuana urine laboratory test, the compounds are identified down to levels of approximately 0.1 ng/mL for most of the diagnostic metabolites. The test incorporates known reference standards for JWH-018 and JWH-073 metabolites in addition to targeting metabolites that elucidated from known positive samples.
Limitations of the test
Although the synthetic marijuana urine laboratory test offered on TestCountry has the ability to detect and positively identifies the presence of metabolites of JWH-018 and JWH-073 in urine, it is unable to detect parent drug or any other synthetic substances like JWH-250, JWH-081, HU-210/211 and CP 47/497. The urine test is also unable to detect most of the herbs the K2, Spice, other "herbal incense" products may contain.
