Twin Zygosity Tests
TestCountry's Zygosity test looks at specific genetic markers to determine the nature of the relationship between twins. It's quick and can be done in the comfort of your own home. To answer the question once and for all. Approximately one in every sixty births results in the delivery of twins.
Twins are either dizygotic (fraternal) or monozygotic (identical). Fraternal twins are the result of two different eggs being fertilized by two separate sperm and resulting in two completely distinct and separate pregnancies in the womb at the same time. The DNA profiles for fraternal twins will not be identical, and they are just like full-siblings that are born at different timesIdentical twins are the result of one egg fertilized by a single sperm. The DNA profiles for identical twins will be identical. Additionally, the physical attributes of identical twins will also be similar.TestCountry's Zygosity Twin test can determine whether siblings are fraternal or identical twins or siblings.
The cost of our service includes two children but you may add more as needed; like a third sibling. Parental samples are optional; if provided, paternity and/or maternity can also be verified
Our test kits come in two Forms:
Home Testing: Our Home Maternity test is similar to a Paternity Test, but determines the probability that a woman is the biological mother of a child. DNA samples can be taken from just the alleged mother and child, but may also include the father.
Legal Testing: To be court-admissible, maternity tests must be backed by proof of the identities of the test participants and a chain of custody of the samples collected (provided by a witness). We now offer a court-admissible version of our Home Test Kit for a small additional charge; this test qualifies as an American Association of Blood Banks AABB accredited test.If you think that you may need to use the results of a test in court proceedings, then you should choose this home kit option.
Our maternity Test kits are:
- Easy to Use: Samples are obtained from the child and the alleged mother (the father's participation is optional, but strongly suggested).
- Accurate: Guaranteed results. 99.999% accuracy guarantee for inclusions; 100% for exclusions. We perform thousands of DNA Parentage Tests for clients in the United States and around the world.
- Confidential : The results of the test are provided in the form of a notarized report. All testing is held in the strictest of confidence with the person (s) directly involving the testing.
- Accredited: We are accredited by the AABB and the College of American Pathologists Proficiency Testing.

Twin zygosity test is done to determine if the twins are fraternal or identical. Fraternal twins mean that the babies have same sex and similar features but can be easily differentiated unlike the identical twins which develop from the division of a single zygote into two different embryos. As fraternal twins are dizygotic twins, developed from two separately fertilized eggs, they do not have identical DNA whereas, identical twins are monozygotic i.e. they have identical DNA patterns as they are developed from a single zygote formed by fertilization of an egg by a single sperm. In twin zygosity tests, certain DNA marker patterns of both the twins are compared and these profiles tend to match exactly in case of monozygotic twins. These tests, although done to satiate parental curiosity most of the times, may have clinical significance in case organ transplantation is required for one of the twins as chances of graft rejection are very few in case of monozygotic twins. The DNA samples may be collected from the cells obtained through buccal swabs which are very easy to use. A twin zygosity test only requires the participation of two individuals: the twins. Neither of the twins’ parents needs to submit a DNA sample for testing.
