Synthetic Drug Testing
Synthetic drug use is becoming a critical trend in the US with families, workplaces and schools all affected. Part of the reason people choose to abuse synthetic drugs is because they are lured into a false sense of safety because they don’t consider drugs like synthetic marijuana or synthetic cocaine to be as dangerous as their real counterparts.
However, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), chemical analysis has proven that these drugs include hidden chemicals that are not listed on the ingredients label, meaning people don’t really know what they are smoking or ingesting when they abuse these drugs, which makes them extremely dangerous.
The synthetic marijuana Spice is created by spraying dried herbs with a synthetic chemical that mimics the effects of tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, the substance in marijuana that produces the desired high.
NIDA’s research has found that synthetic marijuana is the most popular drug to abuse among teenagers in high school after actual marijuana. Another reason these drugs are so popular is because synthetic marijuana is difficult to pick up in standard drug tests.
Smokers of synthetic marijuana have been taken to Poison Control Centers to be dealt with and have reported symptoms including: rapid heart rate, vomiting, agitation, confusion and hallucinations. It can also lead to raised blood pressure, reduced blood supply to the heart and has, in a few cases, been associated with heart attacks.
Synthetic cocaine and bath salts contain substituted cathinones, which have effects similar to amphetamine and cocaine. The white crystals resemble legal bathing products like epsom salts, and are called bath salts with the packaging often stating "not for human consumption" but chemically have nothing to do with actual bath salts.
Drug testing technology is continuing to catch up to these new types of drugs, though. With new synthetic drug tests coming out continuously, these drugs are now easier to detect.
Tests have been created to detect some of the common elements used in synthetic marijuana, like JWH-018, JWH-073 and also two common synthetic stimulants in bath salts; mephedrone and MDPV.
Drug testing can be used for testing children at home, employees and potential employees in the workplace, parolees and in other situations where a drug free environment is required.
You can choose tests that provide you with instant results or tests where samples are sent to a laboratory for analysis.
Confidentiality is guaranteed, as testing at home means only those involved with the test know about it and if you choose to go to a collection center, an ID separate from the donor’s actual name will be assigned to the sample.
